Blackhawks sign veteran forward Peter Bondra

December 10, 2006

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Blackhawks signed veteran forward Peter Bondra to a one-year contract.

The 38-year-old Bondra, who signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers during the 2005-06 season, is a five-time NHL All-Star who has 498 career goals.

"He's a proven goal scorer," General Manager Dale Tallon said in a statement Sunday. "He's a tremendously fit athlete who will add more speed and skill to our lineup. He will help our power play and his experience will greatly help our younger players."

Bondra will undergo a physical Monday morning and could be in the lineup Tuesday when the Blackhawks play the St. Louis Blues.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
