Posts: 650 Group: TEAM MOD SQUAD Member #187 Joined: January 12, 2007	Raiders trade could impact Ravens The trade between the Oakland Raiders and the Atlanta Falcons sending Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall to the Raiders could have an indirect impact on the Ravens (apart from the fluttering butterfly wings effect that all things in all places affect all of us -- but I digress in a Zen kind of way). In the Oakland situation, the Raiders have reportedly traded their second-round pick, and maybe a little more, to the Falcons for Hall. That leaves the Raiders with just one selection in the first three rounds of the NFL draft next month (they traded their 2008 third-rounder last year). The remaining Oakland pick is the No. 4 overall -- so it has substantial value. Given the obvious, that the Raiders need a lot of help at a lot of places, the smart move would appear to be to trade down and pick up a lower first-round pick and some second- or third-rounders for 2008 and '09, of course assuming Oakland finds a dance partner. Now, the Raiders were not going to use that No. 4 overall for a quarterback because of Jamarcus Russell. But a team trading up may be in the QB market. So, on the off-chance that the Ravens were thinking about a QB with the No. 8 pick, the picture gets a bit more murky. Let me say at this point that my personal opinion is that the Ravens are not of a mind to go for a QB with their first-round pick. But let's say the Ravens are interested in a cornerback, as many observers (myself included) believe they should be. Then, this trade for Hall should help Baltimore whether the Raiders keep the No. 4 overall pick or trade it. If Oakland keeps the pick, the Raiders won't be choosing any CBs given the fact that they are now heavily invested in Hall and franchised CB Nnamdi Asomugha. And if Oakland trades the pick, the other team is unlikely to be trying to claw its way to top of the draft for a cornerback. Either way, there will be less competition for corners.
