The rumor spread quickly among other news outlets ... but there's just one problem: it's apparently not true. Not only does Walt Jocketty claim he's not willing to start trading, but Griffey's agent completely has completly refuted the report. From MLB.com: Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, told MLB.com on Sunday that he didn't know where the story came from. "Nobody has mentioned anything to Junior or I," Goldberg said. "It's got to be a media member thinking out loud." Goldberg added that no trade proposals have been brought to Griffey, who has 10-5 no-trade rights since he has at least 10 years of Major League service, including the past five with one team. So is this rumor dead in the water? Maybe, maybe not. There's almost no chance that the Reds would exercise their $16.5 million option to bring Griffey back next year, so it'd be in their best interest to get something in return rather than letting him walk (and still be on the hook for a $4 million buyout). If the Reds haven't brought a trade proposal to Griffey just yet, they will at some point this summer
