A day later, one of the team's assistant coaches, Kevin Griffin, admits he made the whole thing up. "I made a mistake and anything that comes out of this falls on me," said Griffin, who started coaching duties at NIACC on Monday. "Nothing ever came out of Adrian's mouth. "I should have said I'll try to get the money from him and other people. "I should have given coach LaLonde more info on that. I'm at fault. I want to apologize to him and the school, to Adrian and the Vikings." Griffin has supposedly run into Peterson before, and thought about asking the star to help out. Somehow, on the way to talk to the head coach, he managed to turn "I'm going to ask him" into "he's said he'll give us the money." Understandably, the head coach excitedly announced that the team had been saved, only to find out the next day that he's still out of a job. Peterson is another victim in all this, as he looks like a bad guy when, in reality, he never was involved. But the goat in this story, Griffin, admits that his tall tale is probably going to hurt him as well. "I got here on Monday and got fired on Tuesday," he said. "I left my fiancee and two children and a great job in Oklahoma. Now, I'm scrambling to find a job and obviously this bad press is not helping right now." Yeah, being exposed as a liar is usually not real helpful in the job search.
