The Baltimore Oriole fans where so happy with the great start but now they are in 3rd place and losers of 3 to Boston. Do I say, this is the start of their losing season. |

Orioles spring training headquarters is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 18-miles away from Landshark Stadium (formerly Joe Robbie, Pro Player and Dolphin Stadium), and they just lost three in a row again this time to the Florida Marlins, who went 5-1 at home so far on this homestand. Up next for the Marlins? A visit across the state to the defending AL champs, Tampa Rays, who killed the Marlins in a 3-game set here in South Florida earlier this season. Marlins were 5-1 vs. the Yankees and Orioles, and were only 1-game back of the Phillies for first place in the NL East. Meanwhile, I can't understand what possibly could have happened to the once proud and powerful Baltimore Oriole franchise? Ever since Ripkin's retirement, the Birds haven't flown much, they used to be such a great team. Palmer, Weaver, you're talking HOF there. They do play in probably the most beautiful stadium ever built - Camden Yards (or is it officially still called Oriole Park @ Camden Yards)? Sounds like an e-mail address. Baltimore is in the tough AL-East, with Boston, New York and a much better Blue Jay team, but they have been down for so long, it seems like they are minor league, nobody hears a thing about them anymore. Too bad - as a Marlin fan here, will take the sweep and enjoy the current roll the Fish are on - but my favorite American League teams are the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Annaheim Angel's (used to live in LA). Hope to see the Orioles rally back this year, all you ever hear about in baseball seems to be the Yankee-Red Sox rivalry, and the Curse of the Goat in Chicago. That alleged "curse" really is Wrigley Field, where more runs are scored than anyplace else in MLB history. Cubs management is always happy to put 38,000 fans in the seats there, and the Cubbies on the Super Station nationwide, which makes them the best road draw in the National League. But - the Cubs rarely put a team on the field that is competitive, and when they do, they are cursed with playing in Wrigley Field, and the fans are satisfied with a poor on-field product. I love the atmosphere, but would never root for the Cubs, because as long as they are in Wrigley, nothing good will ever happen for them. Seems like the Orioles have developed into that type of franchise also. Beautiful stadium and atmosphere, but bad on-field product of a once proud and dangerous franchise. Hope they rebound soon.....Sabre |
