Woodson Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Month
posted 09/30/2009

Packers cornerback Charles Woodson has been named the NFC's Defensive Player of the Month for September.

In the season's first three games, Woodson has intercepted three passes, which ties him for first in the NFL with safeties Darren Sharper of New Orleans and Michael Huff of Oakland. He returned one of those interceptions 37 yards for a touchdown against Cincinnati in Week 2, and his interception in the fourth quarter last week in St. Louis set up the Packers' game-clinching score.

Woodson also leads the team with 24 tackles (21 solo). In the last two weeks, he has reached double digits in tackles in back-to-back games for the first time in his 12-year career.

Woodson's interception return for a touchdown against the Bengals was his fifth with the Packers, tying him for second in team history in that category with Sharper and Bobby Dillon. He trails only Herb Adderley, who had seven.

His six defensive touchdowns (five interceptions, one fumble return) with Green Bay also rank third in team history, behind only Sharper and Adderley, tied for the top spot with seven.

This marks the second time in the last two seasons Woodson has received Defensive Player of the Month honors. He also won it in September 2008.

Woodson has played great for the Pack. They are really going to need him this Monday vs the Vikings.

It's wonderful even having this guy on my fantasy team. I would love to see him intercept Favre a couple times.

DEFENSE: CB CHARLES WOODSON, GREEN BAY PACKERS
• Woodson became the first player in NFL history with two interceptions, an interception-return touchdown, one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in a game as the Packers defeated Detroit 34-12 on Thanksgiving.
• He totaled seven tackles and four passes defensed and helped limit Lions wide receiver CALVIN JOHNSON to two receptions for 10 yards, despite being targeted on 12 throws.
• Woodson recorded his eighth career interception-return touchdown, tied for the sixth-most in NFL history.
• He was involved in three turnovers by an opponent for the second time in the past three weeks.
• Prior to the Thanksgiving Day game, it also was announced that he had donated $2 million to the new C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital at the University of Michigan, his alma mater.
• In his 12th season from Michigan, this is Woodson's third career Player of the Week Award and second this season (Week 10).
• Woodson joins Pro Football Hall of Famer REGGIE WHITE as the only Packers to be named NFC Defensive Player of the Week three times.

He's done it again! Not only player of the week but also was named defensive player of the month! :10:
